System Liquidity
System liquidity rose sharply by 44.33% to ₦6.52 trillion from ₦4.51 trillion, driven by a ₦2.19 trillion OMO maturity inflow. As liquidity improved, the Overnight Rate declined by 6bps (-6.00%) to 22.19%, while the OPR and NOFR remained unchanged at 22.00%.
Treasury Bills
The Treasury bills market remained bullish as strong liquidity supported investor demand, although some profit-taking emerged at the short end ahead of the NTB auction. Benchmark yield was unchanged at 16.65%.
FGN Bonds
he FGN bond market traded with a bullish bias as investor demand compressed yields across most maturities. Average benchmark yield declined by 8bps to 16.98%
Eurobonds
Nigeria’s Eurobond market was mildly bullish, supported by selective buying and lower U.S. Treasury yields. The average benchmark yield eased by about 1bp to 6.94% from 6.95%.
Nigerian Equities
The NGX market posted a broad-based positive performance, supported by buying interest in mid-cap and blue-chip stocks. Sector returns were mixed: Insurance (+2.33%), Industrial Goods (+1.16%), Oil & Gas (+0.06%), and Banking (+0.09%) advanced, while Consumer Goods (-0.62%) and the NGX-ASI (-0.30%) declined on the day.
Foreign Exchange
The Naira weakened modestly in the official market, with the USD/NGN NAFEM rate depreciating by 0.24% to ₦1,365.53/$. In the parallel market, the naira appreciated slightly as USD/NGN fell 0.35% to ₦1,405/$, while EUR/NGN (parallel) gained 1.60% and GBP/NGN (NAFEM) rose 0.13%.
Commodities
Commodity prices weakened, with Brent crude falling 4.09% to around $84.75/bbl and WTI declining 4.06% to about $79.23/bbl amid easing geopolitical tensions. Gold also fell 1.18% to approximately $4,028.33/oz as a stronger U.S. dollar weighed on sentiment ahead of the Federal Reserve decision.
